STUCK BETWEEN STATIONS - The Hold Steady

The Hold Steady, smart blue collar American bad boy rock n roll with a sense of humor. I quite like them.

Trivia: On Lost Hurley asks the girl he likes at the record store if she'd go with him to see The Hold Steady.

No Eagles for Me

No Eagles
Trip to kcountry before Easter was a blast, even saw some eagles but didn't get any with the camera. Did get a shot of a helicopter buzzing one of the mountains. Mark had more luck with the Eagles.

The Irony of Holy Saturday

Holy Saturday, between the crucifiction of Jesus on Friday and Easter. I wonder if in the shock and the fear of the day before if the first follower's of Jesus thought it ironic to observe the Sabbath, a day rooted in the rest of God, when it seemed so clear that God was resting the day before when they really needed him.

How many passes?

This is a really cool and clever campaign for... situational awareness (you'll understand after you watch it):

Do the Test

I know that Dave will love this and so I'm posting to his blog. =)

Calgary Losing McNally Robinson

I love McNally Robinson for it's cafe, live music and free wifi. When I worked downtown it was a great place to get books, or meet a friend for coffee. Sadly they will close their Calgary location in Aug of 2008.
The value of the real estate over-reaches the potential of the bookselling business, In an average cost structure, the store would be viable and profitable. In downtown Calgary, not so much.

Given that they own the building, is that taxes are did they get an offer the just couldn't refuse? Either way Stephen avenue just lost it's most interesting shop.

500mm x2 Moon

500mm x2 Moon
A friend lent me a Tamron SP 1:8 500 MM Lens with a 2x tele-extender. It was a clear night so I thought I'd try a moon shot.

The Eagles Are Coming

Heading out to K Country this weekend to see some of the Golden Eagle migration. From the Eagle Watch FAQ: When is the best time to go?
during the height of the Golden Eagle migration when we average about 200 birds a day. In the spring the best times are from about March 10 to the first week of April; in the fall from the end of September to the end of October.
Will be heading out to Mount Lorette. Even if I don't get any pictures a hike in K Country is worth the trip.

The Heart of Ministry

We need connections with people that are forged with a deep level of trust and commitment. Relationships that can endure flaws and mistakes and even hurt feelings. Relationships with people that can extend grace and unconditional love when we reveal the dark corners of our soul.

One of the reasons why so many people find their way out of conventional churches is that they are lonely and disconnected in a sea of activity.

...

The heart of ministry is to be Jesus to one another. Too often we overload ourselves with activities that have value but have so captured our attention that they insulate us from each other. We avoid the heart of ministry because it is too hard. We can’t flee from commitment to each other, we must give grace when we are harmed, and we must love when it is inconvenient. Becoming like Jesus is a sacrifice that most of us are unwilling to make and that is why we lack so much.

Every Vote Counts?

"Every vote counts!" - that's the rallying cry calling people out to vote. Yesterday the Alberta PC party won 73 of 83 seats with 54% of the vote. That's 88% of the seats with just 54% of the vote; 64% more seats than if we had proportional representation.

We have a very strong disconnect between the way people vote and the government that gets sent to Edmonton. No wonder a record 59% of eligible voters didn't vote. That should worry any democratic government, even one with 88% of the seats.
