Matisyahu Jerusalem

If you don't know this Hasidic Jew reggae rapper, Paste explains that Matisyahu like teflon, no shtick. It was Paste that first introduced me to Matisyahu via one of their samplers and a short documentary on one of their DVDs. POD also did a song with him on Testify. Very Cool.

Video as seen on RMR thanks to nothing new under the sun...

The Secret

Tonight at Xalt we continued our study of First Peter, looking at chapter 4, verse 19 jumped out at me :
So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
It just struck me as the exact opposite of the prosperity gospel, weather in the form of Supply Side Jesus, Wayne Dyer or more recently with the Oprah crowd: The Secret. Suffering according to the will of our faithful Creator, a deep heresy to many.

Mute Math - Typical

Wish I'd seen these guys when I had the chance in 2005, but I didn't know who they were then. I became a fan when Paste included a single on one of their samplers.

Tony Campolo on CBC's The Hour

Tony Campolo was on the Hour last night, here's what The Hour web site has to say about Tony:
In Canada, about 23 million people consider themselves 'Christian,' in one way or another. But for the most part, religion and politics are separate.

Different story in the U.S., especially, when it comes to the Christian right. Religion and politics get mixed up together.

Tonight, we've got a guy who knows all about it.

His name is Tony Campolo, one of America's most influential preachers. He does charity work, he's written dozens of books, and, he was Bill Clinton's spritual advisor during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

These days, he has a new book out, it's called 'Letters to a Young Evangelical.'

But Tony is a different kind of Evangelical.
The interview runs for about 10 minutes and is worth a watch.

Johnny Cash: a singer of songs

I’m not a savior, and I’m not a saint.
The man with the answers I certainly ain’t
I wouldn’t tell you what’s right or what’s wrong.
I’m just a singer of songs.

But I can take you for a walk along a little country stream.
I can make you see through lover’s eyes and understand their dreams.
I can help you hear a baby’s laugh and feel the joy it brings.
Yes, I can do it with the songs that I sing.
I’m not a prophet, and I’m not a priest.
I’m not a wise man who’s come from the East.
I wouldn’t tell you what’s right or what’s wrong.
I’m just a singer of songs.

But I can take you to a city where a Man was crucified.
I can tell you how He lived, and I can tell you why He died.
I can help proclaim the glory of this mighty King of kings.
Yes, I can do it with the songs I sing.
I’m not a great man. I don’t claim to be.
But when I meet my Maker and He questions me,
I won’t hang my head. I’ll stand proud and strong
and say, “I was a singer. Lord, I was a singer.
Yes, I was a singer of songs.
Singer of Songs by Johny Cash from posthumous American collection “Unearthed”. Quoted by Chris Rice in his post Johnny Cash: a singer of songs

Copy MP3s from your IPOD

You can move music onto your ipod with iTunes, but what if you want to move those files from the ipod to another PC? The easy part is well documented on the web, enable files , show hidden folders in Windows Explorer copy files from ipod/control/music to your PC. But now what? The folders have random names as do the MP3s. That's where Mp3tag comes in, you point it to the root of where you copied the files to and tell it to rename the files from the tag name and now you have meaningful file names. Use file explorer to search for all the songs by say U2 in the random file folders and copy them to one place and do what ever you'd do with them on your second PC!

Check Box Theology

It is possible to say more or less all the orthodox Christian affirmations, but to join them up in the wrong story. It's possible to tick the boxes that say Trinity, Incarnation, Atonement, Resurrection, Spirit, Second Coming, and yet it's like a child's follow-the-dots. The great story—and after all the Bible is fundamentally a story—we've got to pay attention to that, rather than abstracting dogmatic points from it. The dogmas matter, they are true, but you have to join them up the right way.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a civil rights organization for ethnic minorities in the united States. They gave Bono an award for the work he's done with (Red), The One Campaign. and DATA. He was one of the few white people in the room. The ending is very strong.

Resonate Media Radar

I've added some code to the Who Reads What spider that reads all the sites within two clicks of the Resonate Blogger list. The new code looks for YouTube video's and blogs the new ones it finds on the Resonate Media Radar.

Warning: The Resonate Bloggers are a strange bunch, and they link to some strange people so the videos include things like: GOLLUM & SMEAGOL SING BARRY WHITE and other addictive time wasters.
