16 Years and 1600 KM

16 years and 1600 KM
I hit two milestones today 16 years of marriage and 1600 km of biking for 2008. Kim came out and met me at the 1600 km point and we did a quick photo shoot, so this is my 1600 KM shot :)

Can't Search Google with Google

I can search the World Wide Web with google, and If I wanted I could search my local machine with google desktop, but there is no one search for google mail, calendar docs, picassa albums and blogger. Why? How weird is it to have data islands provided by Google? The same Google who's mission is to "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful."

Just noticed that today.

The more we learn about biology...

The models we were taught in school about "dominant" and "recessive" genes steering a strictly Mendelian process have turned out to be an even greater simplification of reality than Newton's laws. The discovery of gene-protein interactions and other aspects of epigenetics has challenged the view of DNA as destiny and even introduced evidence that environment can influence inheritable traits, something once considered a genetic impossibility.

In short, the more we learn about biology, the further we find ourselves from a model that can explain it.

OK it's from Wired but I thought it was an interesting quote.

Kevin Floats Away

Kevin Floats Away
Kevin headed out on a great adventure, he's Canoeing and biking his way from Calgary to St. Louis, maybe even New Orleans. Don't know when we'll seem here again, but our prayers are with him. BTW He's going to try and blog his trip at kevinfloat.blogspot.com.

1400 KM and a Flat

1400 KM and a flat
Hit the 1400 KM spot and a screw at the same time. Got a flat, so this picture is taken from a bench waiting for Kim to rescue me. Irony is that the Slime Tyer Liners I ordered came in today but I didn't have time to pick them up. Will have to drive there tomorrow.

Out Riden and Out Geeked

Not only is D'Arcy Norman about 700 km ahead of me for 2008 but he's out geeked me by straping a video camera to his head and taping his morning commute. Watch the movie!

Why FireFox 3?

I know FireFox 3 has been in the works for sometime, but nothing I've read has given me a reason to give it a try. This screen cast shows off the new FF3 features quite well. Now I'm looking forward to the new FF version.

My Xalt Weekend

I'm a member of Xalt, it's a Church, but it's also a community, this weekend reflected that.

Friday Night - Power Grid with Kevin and Clement, in the back ground Luke is dropping by with a few things as he's moving in.

Saturday Morning - Calvin, Kevin and I help Richard move from Airdrie to Calgary joining Calvin, Kevin Luke and Peter.

Saturday Night - Kim and I head to Melissa & Phil's. Melissa throws a great party for Phil's 25th Birthday.

Sunday Morning - Kim and I get some couple time. Only related to Xalt in that we meet Sunday night so I have Sunday Mornings free, a pleasure denied many of the faithful.

Sunday Night - Sarah and I head to Xalt. Calvin provides me with new insight into the Godlessness of Esau. Scott and I make plans for breakfast this week. Sarah gets a ride home with Dave and I give Marina a ride to a rare post Xalt board meeting. As a board we wrestle with the fact that we're a small community that has lost a number of people, a number moving out of Calgary, some choosing to withdraw. No easy answers. We pray. Meeting goes to just past 11 pm. Tony and Julie need a ride home and as the get into the Element Tony mentions he's hungry. The four of us hit Humpties, talk share and laugh till past midnight. I drive Tony and Julie home, drop of Marina, drive home crawl into bed just past 1 am.

It was a good weekend.
